ROMANIAN HISTORIC MISFORTUNES
A "POCKET " CHRONOLOGY
Romanians:
people of Aryan remote origins, born within the CARPATHO-DANUBIAN
ZONE and whose forefathers' active migration towards West would
later generate the European population, while towards East, the
Hindu-Asian one.
We used to possess, throughout
our beginnings as "Pelasgians", an extremely large area
within nowadays so called "EASTERN EUROPE", that was
extending itself "far and away" from both shores of
the majestic Danube River, namely until beyond what is today called
Slovakian space to the North and over the entire Balkan Peninsula
to the South; to the East, up to outrunning Bug River's fields,
whereas to the West, Pelasgians were to be found even across most
regions from today's Austria. The Greeks' massive invasion (which
some "historians" have rushed to baptize "Great
Colonization"), who were to arrive over us from the Eastern
banks of Caspian Sea, between 1,900-1,600 B.C., and settle on
the Southern parts (including islands) of Balkan Peninsula, would
drive a significant part of the local Thracian-Pelasgian population
towards its North. Therefore, along the centuries to come, later
(Geta-Thraco-Dacian-) Pelasgian groups were going to be properly
named in accordance with the geographical area where each had
sought refuge from the invaders (namely, Illirians, Macedonians,
Geta-Dacians, Scythians, Carps, Costhoboks, just the way our contemporary
Romania's inhabitants are still called Moldavians, Transylvanians,
Wallachians, yet also as natives of Banat, Ialomitza, Dobrudja
regions), and NOT because of some "keeping up" with
the SPOKEN LANGUAGE, which was the SAME.
After the year 106 A.D., only
about 14% from ancient Dacia's territories being (partially) conquered
by and "unified" to the Roman Empire (see Roman Emperor
Trajan's two bloody campaigns, between 101-102 A.D. and 105-106
A.D., versus our heroic King Decebalus-"Braveheart"),
we were going to be named as "ROMANS" for... just some
165 years, period after which Emperor Aurelianus orders both his
troops and Administration to abruptly retreat at the South of
Danube.
During the sixth century A.D.
come the first Slavonic tribes, who were going to "settle
tight" along the same Danube's Southern region, thus geographically
separating us forever, through their compact settling, into two
large "brotherhoods" located at the Northern and Southern
neighboring areas. We would, nevertheless, continue to maintain
intact our long-lasting customs and language until nowadays (still,
the latter was to later develop into four main sub-dialects, respectively
DACO-ROMANIAN for the Northern group AND MACEDO-ROMANIAN, MEGLENO-ROMANIAN
or HISTRO-ROMANIAN for the other).
The second Hungarian invasion
(which happened during centuries IX-X A.D.) manages to temporarily
detach back then, through military force, Transylvania from our
country, but still, the Romanian majority living over there would
face humiliation and repression with dignity, while totally resisting
to maintain virtually unchanged both their language and characteristic
habits.
The XII-th century would mark
the vicinity forming of so called "GREAT ROMANO-BULGARIAN
EMPIRE", at the South of Danube River, a fact which was to
impose Ionita Caloianu, "the Sheperd-King" from Asanesti
family as its charismatic representative. The same XII-th century
brings us, as well, the Gypsies' invasion (who would mass-migrate
from an impoverished India to "infest" most of the European
lands); we couldn't have got, instead, "luckier"...
The Middle Age Turkish Empire's
invasion, occurring on a large scale throughout the XV-th century,
would be an expansionistic wave full of atrocities, yet, strangely
enough, it wasn't going to affect us in any way regarding our
spoken language or customs; moreover, paradoxically, Turks were
going to become, afterwards, the ones to protect us from an emerging
Austro-Hungaro-Russian combined rapacity.
The Russians' premier arrival
to the Nister River (situated, once, at our North-Eastern previous
boundaries), during year 1792, which was to "bring"
us, right away, a first "present" from their future-to-be
"lists" (according to the late Czar Peter "the
Great's" totalitarian Will directions) for the so called
"satellite" countries: a total (and definitive) loss
of our territory situated between Bug and Nister.
In the year of 1812 Russians
would accede up to the Prut River (a leading part being "played"
here by their General Kiseleff), to start a (first) temporary
occupation of... our Bessarabia.
The years 1877-1878: Romanian
Royal Army comes to join the Russians' into a fierce and ultimately
victorious conflict against the then-decadent Turkish Empire,
through what has nationally become known as our "INDEPENDENCE
WAR". As a result, the Russian Czar Nicolai would understand
to show his "gratitude" towards our "helping hand"
(that is, bravery and lots of casualties suffered at Plevna, Rahova,
Vidin, Smardan etc.) by... taking away the three unoccupied left
districts in Southern Bessarabia (namely, Kahul, Bolgrad and Ismail),
meanwhile "giving" us back the QUADRILATER REGION at
the South of Danube, near the Black Sea, a land which anyway belonged,
and still belongs to us "de facto et de jure".
A quite large part of the
Western Romanian region of BANAT is plainly being offered to the
Serbs, as a Royal "wedding present" to his sister, by
"our" young, immature King Michael of... Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen;
alas, poor Romania, what have thy become?!... Poor people of Banat...
The ill-fated, so called "year of the MOLOTOV-RIBBENTROP
PACT", 1940: it marks a top-secret agreement between Hitler
and Stalin, marking BESSARABIA's reoccupation campaign by our
Soviet "friends" (until 1941, and from 1944 till nowadays),
whereas TRANSYLVANIA is being granted to fascist Hungary through
the VIENNA DIKTAT (fortunately, just until 1945, when Romanian
Armies march a second time over Budapest) and the QUADRILATER
REGION is taken back, through the CRAIOVA DIKTAT, again by Bulgarians
(until nowadays as well!).
AUGUST 23-rd, 1944:
the historical act of arresting Romanian Marshall Antonescu at
the King's Palace, in Bucharest, and turning weapons against Nazi
Germany, which would soon afterwards prove to have been a deed
of high national treason, mainly because of the "Romanian
communists'" deep involvement (actually, agents of the Komintern).
These would immediately dedicate themselves to the purging of
our top politicians and Army leaders, while transforming our country
into a powerless, Russian-dominated communist "satellite"
for the next 45 years to come.
The year 1944: on before shown
"basis" the victorious Soviet, "brotherly"
neighbor would again occupy "their" BESSARABIA up
to the present days, when they figured to better installing
a Moscow-controlled, but so called "independent" puppet
Government at "Kishinev" (the real Romanian name of
County's capital being CHISINAU) and renaming it as... "the
MOLDAVIAN REPUBLIC"! The same year 1944: marks the happening
of another Soviet "temporary" occupation ("only
for two decades", to quote Stalin's Foreign Minister, Molotov's
sarcastic remark back then) of Romanian lands, namely of BUKOVINA
and the HERTZA REGION, both of which were to share Bessarabia's
sorrow through fate, and are still "waiting" nowadays
for some Justice.
The years 1945-1989: the Yalta
secret agreement among Roosevelt-Stalin-Churchill (which was to
merciless split the so called "superpowers' influence zones"
over Europe's smaller countries, and DID "COMMUNIZE"
US for almost five decades) was said to have had its contemporary
correspondent through the no less classified meeting of Malta,
between Bush-Gorbachev. Nothing has been published, yet, about
the "main topics" on their agenda, and only rumors say
that "the Iron Curtain" was to "move" a little
bit towards East while becoming a "Silk" one; in exchange
for the Philippines and Panama Canal, the Soviets were to still
continue dominating Christian-Orthodox nations, except for Greece,
fortunately a N.A.T.O. member already. Thus, Bulgaria, 66% of
Romania (since Transylvania had long been considered as being
overall Catholic) and 50% of former Yugoslavia were to "belong"
to the Soviets in the future as well. The unexpected (?!) dismantling
of former Soviet Union seems, however, to have brought chaos within
all these geo-political projects but, meanwhile, Yugoslavia has
already been "put to pieces"... Who's next?
December 22-nd 1989: Romanian
communist dictators Nicolae Ceausescu and wife are overthrown
and assassinated by a handful of conspirators, most of them former
high-ranking communists and... suspected K.G.B. agents, with a
master "cover-up" help from Moscow's experts to make
it look like a popular revolt, with its invisible "terrorists"
and almost 2,000 victims... A so called period of "reform
and transition towards market economy" cannot hide the reality
of previous second-ranking aparatchniks taking over the country
(through the otherwise called "NEO-COMMUNISM IN DISGUISE",
or "CRYPTO-COMMUNIST REGIME"), the opposition being
constantly harassed and intimidated, free press silenced by all
possible means, the miners, or other working categories being
at times incitated against democratic intellectuality and some
people who knew too much being periodically "eliminated".
Meanwhile, although the general level of poverty makes her day-to-day
survival efforts more and more difficult, the Romanian population
continues to... exist, waiting for better times.
